Forspoken
Role: Localization Team Member (2021)
Platforms: PlayStation 5, PC
Project Overview
Forspoken was a major new IP for Square Enix, which meant the localization team was instrumental in defining how a brand-new fantasy world and its lore would be introduced to players globally. There was no pre-existing foundation, so every term and line of dialogue had to be carefully established from scratch.
My Role & Responsibilities
Process Development: As a key team member, I contributed to the development and optimization of new translation workflows specifically tailored for this IP. This included creating and maintaining the project's first glossary and terminology database.
Cross-Cultural Collaboration: I actively fostered collaboration between the English scriptwriters and the Japanese translation teams. I helped facilitate discussions around culturally specific slang and idioms used by the protagonist, ensuring the adaptations felt authentic and modern rather than literal translations.
Quality Control: I performed early-stage linguistic checks on translated text, helping to establish the foundational tone and quality standards that would be used throughout the project's lifecycle.
